Beware The God

Understanding the presence and power of God

The great temptation of previous generations was to create a God who never got dirty - so if you wanted to approach him you had to be dressed up, eloquent, and prudish.

But those days are long gone.

The great temptation of our generation is to turn God into nothing more than a man - removing all references to holiness or majesty.

Let me give you an example.

Google defines awesome as, “extremely impressive or daunting; inspiring great admiration, apprehension, or fear.” The sentence they use for this word is, “The awesome power of the atomic bomb.” That’s what awesome used to mean, anyway.

Something has happened over the past 25 years. People have started to redefine the word. People have started using the word awesome to describe their food.

The first time I had the queso from Torchy’s, I’m pretty sure I looked at my friend and said, “THIS! This is awesome!”

Now listen… that queso is out of this world good. But awesome is a biblical word… a word that was once reserved for God and God alone.

In this sermon, I will teach about the holiness of God from the life of David.
