A Tale of Two Kings

1 Samuel 16:1-13

What sin are you tolerating that has the potential to uproot your life twenty years from now?

That’s what my friend John Newsome regularly asks guys who tell him that they want to go into ministry. The first time I heard it, I was really uncomfortable. I mean… that’s a DEEP and PERSONAL question to ask someone you’ve just met.

But over the years I have realized how important this question is… and not just for people in ministry! This is a good question for anyone who follows Jesus because it confronts the lie that each one of us is tempted to believe. The lie started in the garden of Eden. “Oh, come on! God’s not serious about the consequences of eating that apple. There’s no way you’re going to die!”

God’s word is clear. Sin leads to death — always.

In this sermon, I will teach on the rejection of Saul as king of Israel (1 Samuel 13, 14, 15) and the anointing of David (1 Samuel 16:1-13).
